Who is K.E.N.A
Kena N. Gayles was an entrepreneur, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to many. Her love for her daughters and grandchildren guided her life, and her intelligence and courage were evident in all she did. As a single mother, she made a path of entrepreneurship and success, always putting her family first. In 2022, she was continuously suffering from abdominal pain that many doctors were misdiagnosing and, unfortunately, just prescribing pain medications. She was diagnosed with fibroids and told that she needed to have a hysterectomy. In May 2022, she had a hysterectomy, which still did not relieve her of the abdominal pain. Then, in June of 2022, she was diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial cancer and given only 4-6 months of life. By August, the tumor had metastasized, and she passed away on September 11th, 2022, leaving behind a family who loved her deeply. Her battle with endometrial cancer, a disease that often goes undiagnosed, underscores the urgent need for awareness and support.
The K.E.N.A Initiative, developed to honor her legacy, is vital to keeping Kena's memory alive. It ensures that Black women are heard and made aware of this disease, inviting everyone to participate in this important cause.
